ROCKAWAY TWP., NJ   August 15, 2006                                                                        0330 hrs

The Rockaway Township Fire Department responded today at approximately 0330 hours to a report of a car into

a house at 46 Souix Avenue in the White Meadow Lake section of the Township.  Companies 2 & 5 were dispatched

to the scene.  It was learned from the police department that the driver had fled the scene and could not be located.

The residents of the house who were asleep at the time were quite shaken by the ordeal but refused medical treatment.

Deputy Chief Bob Jenkins cancelled Company 2, and had Engine 551 stretch an 1 3/4" line into the interior because of

slight smoke haze coming from under the vehicle that was intensifying.  After investigating, they found that there was a couch

under the vehicle and the catalytic converter was resting on it.  The line was charged and the area cooled down.
